Where Are Coral Reefs Located

So where are coral reefs located?

World-wide, coral reefs are located in tropical oceans (some temperate but not much).

There are two main areas of coral reef in the world - the Atlantic/Carribean and the Indo-Pacific.

The first is much smaller than the second, and if you divide the second into Indo (Africa, India) and Pacific (South east Asia and Oceania), again the second has about 90%.

Australia is in the southern end of the world's largest concentration of corals, and on top of that it has the world's largest single reef system - the Great Barrier Reef, along the coast of Queensland. In the north-west, we also have Ningaloo Reef - the second largest in Australia.
