Freshwater turtles are mainly herbivores, most eat leaves, blossoms and
fruits of the vegetation around their creeks and waterholes, but some,
such as snapping turtles, eat insects, small fish and small
invertebrates.
Many freshwater turtles are omnivores when juveniles, but turn into
herbivores once adults.
