Richmond Australia

There are a few places called Richmond in Australia.

This small outback town in northern Queensland is probably one of the least known.

The town is mostly known as one of the three in the so called 'dinosaur triangle' (the other two are Winton and Hughenden).

In all the three, including the areas between, a lot of dinosaur fossils have been found over the years. The ones around Richmond include a kind of dinosaur called Kronosaur.

So the town's major tourist attraction is the Kronosaurus Korner, where you can learn all about the dinosaurs as well as a lot of other fossils found in this area. This is also the town's tourist information centre and souvenir shop.

There is also an old stone house museum in town, that contains some great memorabilia including the old Cobb&Co carriage that used to pass through the town.

There are two pubs in town, one of which has hotel rooms upstairs. There are also a few motels in the town as well as a caravan park.

Next to the caravan park is a bush tucker walk that goes to a man made lake with picnic tables and a small childerns' water park playground.

Outside the town are fossil sites where you can go looking for your own piece of a dinosaur fossil.

Here's a map of the town. You can double-click anywhere on the map to zoom it in and see the places closer. Drag the map to move around, and if you want to see the satellite image with Google Earth, click on "Sat" in the top right hand corner.
