While the southern Australian cities have extensive public transport,
Cairns is the type of city where it's really nice to drive around.
It
is smaller than the southern cities, parking is easier to find, and its
only public transport is buses. There are also a lot of places outside
the city such as Kuranda, Port Douglas, Mossman, Daintree Rainforests
and Atherton Tablelands, which can only be reached by car unless you go
on an
expensive tour. So renting a car is a really good idea while holidaying
in Cairns.

There are many different companies and the most popular ones are the
larger ones such as Avis, Hertz, Europcar, Budget and Thrifty. Prices
and cars vary, and it used to be time consuming to compare them. Now
you can quickly and simply pick your choice here:

British English, which is the English we use in Australia. You will
find words like "traveller", "harbour" and "realise", and they are all
correct in the language used in Australia.
