Cairns is a very popular tourist destination and the amount of places to stay is huge. Most of the places are in the central city, walking distance to everywhere. A smaller amount of places is in North Cairns, still walking distance to almost everywhere. Many people also stay in Cairns Northen Beaches. They are beautiful quiet communities, not too far away, and there is even continuous bus service to the city.

Cairns City
This is a great location, perfect walking distance to everywhere in the city.

North Cairns is still an attractive location, a bit further from the city centre, but a nice 10ish minute walk away, a walk that can be done along the beautiful Esplanade beachfront. And most of the places here are either on the beachfront or a block or two away.

Outer western suburbs are not walking distance to the city but they are more attractive than the inner western and the southern suburbs. They are closer to the mountain range and often in places near waterfalls, rivers, rainforest, freshwater lakes..

Machans and Holloways Beaches (5-10 min Drive)
These are only a 5-10 minute drive north of the city - nice laid back quiet beach communities.
