Australian People

Australian people is a multicultural mix.

There are about 22 million people in Australia, in a cultural mix from about 200 different countries from all the world's continents.


Firstly, there are the indigenous people. There are two distinctive groups of them - Torres Strait Islanders and Aboriginal people.

Indidgenous people today make up 2.5% of the total population of Australia.

Since 1788, Australia started to also have British and Irish population, and since the gold rushes some other nationalities. Since the Second world war Australian population increased with many other nationalities. Today, over a quarter of Australian population was born overseas.

Such great mix makes Australia very rich in cuisine, traditions and culture.
